Become a workplace chaplain.
If you're a good listener, comfortable in ordinary places, and want to bring care into working life - you could be a WorkCare chaplain. You don't need to be ordained. You do need patience, empathy and a willingness to keep showing up.
Putting faith into action
Introduction to Workplace Chaplaincy
Our introductory course is designed for anyone wanting to live out their faith by supporting the health and wellbeing of others in the workforce. The core mission of WorkCare West Midlands is to show Christian care to people of all faiths - or none - in their professional environments. Listening, we've found, is the most important thing.
How you get started
Have a conversation
Meet with one of our coordinators - over coffee or on a call - to explore whether chaplaincy might be a fit for you.
Training & induction
Complete our foundational training covering listening skills, safeguarding, workplace context and the ethos of chaplaincy.
Placement
We'll match you with a workplace that suits your availability, gifts and locality - usually a couple of hours a week or fortnight.
Ongoing support
You're never alone. Regular supervision, peer meet-ups and continued development keep you supported and growing.
Course curriculum
Seven sessions covering the heart, skills and practicalities of chaplaincy.
Why be a workplace chaplain?
An exploration of the motivations and biblical foundations - Christ as the first chaplain - for this unique ministry.
Presence and pastor
Understanding how to be a visible, supportive figure in a secular environment.
Understanding the context
Learning how the economy functions and how work provides a sense of fulfilment and purpose.
The critical friend
Learning how to navigate relationships and offer honest, trusted perspectives within a workplace.
Faith and spirituality
Exploring how to respect various faith positions while maintaining a Christian identity.
Organising for chaplaincy
Practical logistics, including a site visit to an active workplace chaplaincy location.
Chaplaincy and the church
Understanding the relationship between the chaplain's work and their local church community.

Training Day 1
19 September 2026
Sessions running from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Training Day 2
3 October 2026
Site visit to an existing workplace chaplaincy (10:00am - 12:30pm).
Training Day 3
24 October 2026
Final training sessions from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Commissioning Service
15 November 2026
A service celebrating the completion of training at 3:00pm.
